Candace Anderson thanked the Ad Hoc Committee for their work and their
recommendation. She spoke in favor of remaining vigilant with any other proposals,
preserving the land, and she also expressed a lack of understanding as to how this land
could be feasible since it is not solid nor sustainable. She spoke in favor of looking out
for our children, the American dream, affordable housing in relation to jobs being
temporary and or union or not.
Mayor Aguirre said that concluded the public comment.
One Council Member commented that there is a poll and he said there were some
questions about false choices befinreen restoration and development— he assured the
public that there was no Council discussion about raising taxes for restoration. He
suggested that the committee place this back into the General Plan and have the
community analyze this and using a General Plan process to address this area which
was left out four years ago from the General Plan. He supported it because if that was
not the case, the General Plan would not be completed. At that time, he was under the
impression that this area would be revisited and handled through a similar process.
This Council Member supported an advisory vote because the proposal was on the
table but now that the application was withdrawn it would be unnecessary.
The Mayor said these items would be placed on a future agenda.
Another Council Member thanked the Ad Hoc Committee for its work. He believes that
infantile attacks on people's character need to stop. He appreciates those who did not
pursue that type of dialogue. He believes in working together, sharing a vision and
celebrating what has been accomplished.
The other Council Member in the Ad Hoc Committee noted that this is private property
and the Council cannot deny something that is not even a Plan yet. She made
comments about doing the right thing and meeting the needs of the community, and so
it is premature to dismiss plans. She said that personal attacks are unnecessary and
the Council takes these very seriously because Council takes rules and laws from the
FPPC and if they serve on two boards it is because they are permitted to do so. She
made comments about about working together and being respectful. She said that any
application that is filed will need to address the needs of the city which includes, water,
restoration, traffic, etc. She invited all residents and non-residents to get involved in all
things that are happening now and need public input like Depot Circle, Stanford, Inner
Harbor Visioning.
Another Council Member thanked the Ad Hoc Committee for its work and he reaffirmed
that this Council wants to focus on what is best for Redwood City and that includes -
working together, agreeing to disagree and showing respect towards all but we are not
allowed to be disagreeable with each other. He referred to social media and how the
Council is aware of the labels and the judgments which are unnecessary and uncalled
for. He asked that people disagree but learn not to be disagreeable with each other.
JOINT CITY COUNCIL/SUCCESSOR AGENCY May 7, 2012
MEETING MINUTES PAGE 13
MINUTE BOOK NO. 64
Page No. 115
