6.1.A. - Page 7 <br /> Another Council Member noted that the tact and diplomacy used by those who sent in <br /> letters and emails was noteworthy. It was refreshing to see the respect in those <br /> communications and the tone used was polite and on point. She is hopeful that staff will <br /> find the perfect path for this situation and she is confident the extra time will allow the <br /> correct approach. Vice Mayor Gee asked for a bit of patience from all those involved in <br /> order to find the best solution and address the issues that have been brought up by all <br /> those who live in the area and might have divergent views. <br /> Mayor Aguirre asked Mr. Ekern to provide a synopsis of the community meetings which <br /> took place. Mr. Ekern deferred to Ms. Manzi who shared information on the various <br /> meetings held and the comments provided. She reported that all groups selected some <br /> kind of lane removal and that was the option that Council reviewed. The main concerns <br /> shared at these meeting were related to speeding and driving out of driveways. She <br /> said that there was a wide array of comments but there was no voting or ranking per se. <br /> Mayor Aguirre reiterated that safety is her main concern and she has driven this street <br /> for at least 25 years, so she knows about the challenges. In fact, she noted that she <br /> has seen many changes but she would like to see more changes. She concurs that <br /> being certain that the correct approach is taken, is important. The Mayor would, like <br /> other Council Members, to review other options around safe measures and traffic <br /> calming measures. <br /> Council consensus was to have staff take a deeper look at options related to <br /> traffic calming measures and find the best approach possible and promptly return <br /> the item for Council action. <br /> 8. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. City Council Member Report of Conferences Attended <br /> Council Member Pierce rejoined her colleagues at the dais. <br /> Mayor Aguirre noted that BAWSCA (Bay Area Water Service Conservation Agency) <br /> sent a notification regarding San Francisco voters' decision in November, which will <br /> impact Redwood City. Council Member Pierce added that while BAWSCA has not taken <br /> a position on the measure, it will probably take a position with the legislature once the <br /> results are out. The member agencies believe that each agency should have an option <br /> to review the various approaches. Vice Mayor Gee clarified that this refers to San <br /> Francisco's ballot Measure F, which will be on the November ballot, and how the other <br /> 2/3 of the agencies will have no say, but the outcome will impact Redwood City and the <br /> other 2/3 agencies. <br /> Council Member Pierce reported that she sat on the Regional Housing agency and she <br /> believes that the conversations have a different tone now and all the jurisdictions are <br /> taking their housing quotas and numbers seriously.
