The
aforesaid local amendment is necessary in that
local conditions and experience have shown that
the installation of concrete slab floors in such
a manner substantially reduces infiltration of
moisture into the occupied area of the building,
reduces damage to foundation and floor system due
to expansive soils conditions and minimizes
differential settlement.
(b) 'I'hat Article X, entitled "Seismic Requirements, "
shall be added to Chapter 9 of the Code of he
City of Redwood City to provide detailed require-
ments in addition to provisions of the Uniform
Building Code with relation to lot grading, soils
design, foundation design, construction design
and other engineering design, in the areas of
Redwood City referred to in Divisions II and III
of said Article X, respectively. The aforesaid
local amendment is necessary in that local seismic
and geologic conditions, experience and comprehensive
engineering, geological, seismic and soils analys:s
have shown that implementation of these detailed
requirements in the specified areas can greatly
minimize differential settlement of structures
and provide inereased structural integrity with
respect to seismic safety.
2 , It is hereby found and determined that, because of the
aforesaid local conditions, the public health, safety, welfare,
-2-
' 9 $
