Product Disposition
Product disposition during the first year of. composting is projected as follows:

o Bulk Sales from the Facility:
Approximately 75 percent of the finished product will be marketed
directly from the facility in bulk form. The marketing effort will target
landscapers, contractors, large nurseries and farmers in San Mateo,
Santa Clara and San Francisco Counties.

o Public Agency Uses:
BFI marketing personnel will reserve 10 percent by volume of the
finished product for use by the participating cities, if desired. BFI will
publicize the name and location of the local distributors and provide
necessary saleS/product use literature.

o Bagged Program:
Initially some product may be bagged by an independent operator and
sold in the local market. Once BFI's Bay Area bagging plant is
operational, bagged product from San Mateo County will also be
distributed to large national chains. After several years bagged .sales
are anticipated to account for 25 percent of the product sales.
Additionally, BFI will have a community "give back" program allowing
residents t~ receive free compost. BFI will specially design a compost
bag for material .composted from the participating cities. Each
residential address will receive a coupon entitling them to one free 40
pound bag of compost per year.

12
