Since our odginal proposal was submitted, the County of San Mateo has
adopted a Countywide ReSidential Backyard Composting Program. The
CoUnty's program is summarized on the following pages. The pro. gram has
had an excellent response from the residents in the county.

BFI and the county have agreed that we should not duplicate our efforts in
providing backyard compost bins to residents. We also agree that there
cannot be enough public education .and outreach with regard to this
program. BFI proposes to augment the County's public education and
outreach program for backyard composting using articles in the quarterly
BFI newsletter, provide backyard composting demonstrations at local fairs
and festivals, and assist with the development of a Master Composter
program at the County's discretion.
