The basic 'bin size 0 tiers) is. 13 cubic feet. Additional tiers can be added; each <br /> additional tier adds 4.2 cubic feet. It's made of 60% .reCycled polyethylene. <br /> <br /> Selection Rationttle <br /> <br /> Numerous pilot studies have been completed by o)~her jurisdictions involving both <br /> .. experienced'and novice composters to evaluate various compost bins. Tile San Marco <br /> County Compost Bin Task.Force reviewed many of these pilot studies and dete,',~iried that <br /> enough information already existed in the cqmpleted st'udies to select an apprb, priate bin for <br /> San Mateo County residents without conducting an additional pilot study. <br /> <br /> To' s~lect a bin using existing studies the ).n~k fo~ first prepared a Iisi of evaluation criteria <br /> and assigned points to the criteria to indicate each criteria's relative importance. The <br /> evaluation studies were then reviewed and three bins were identified as candidates. <br /> Jurisdictions using one or more of the bins were contacted for feedback. We also contacted <br /> each of the manufacturers. After considering n'or the available information, the Biostack <br /> Composter was selected' as the best bin for .san Marco County residents. A summary of how <br /> the bin' rated on the criteria identified as most important (listed below in descending order) <br /> follows. <br /> <br /> Effectiveness: HOW effective is the bin at producing finished compost? <br /> <br /> The Biostack Composter's patented three tier design is suitable to many types oSusers. The <br /> user'interested in prodt,cing compost quickly' will be able to do so easily. Frequent turning of <br /> the pile relies and aerates the m:iterials resulting in rapid decomposition and qt,ick results. <br /> The three tler design makes turning the Pile easy. The stackable tiers are simply unstacked <br /> and restocked' and the initial pile is scooped into the new stack..
