6.1.A. - Page 2 <br /> 5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Proclamation: Recognition of Carlos Felix Corona, <br /> Ambassador/Consul General of Mexico in San Francisco - Alicia C. Aguirre, <br /> Mayor <br /> Mayor Aguirre invited Ambassador/Consul General to the podium to be recognized. She <br /> invited Mr. Warren Dale with Redwood City International to present Mr. Felix Corona <br /> with a gift. <br /> Mayor Aguirre enumerated some of Mr. Felix Corona's accomplishments and then <br /> presented him with a proclamation, a book about Redwood City and a key to the City. <br /> Other Council Members made comments about their interaction with the Consul <br /> General and how much they value what he has done for Redwood City. The City <br /> Council expressed thanks and appreciation for his commitment to our community. <br /> Mr. Felix Corona addressed the Council and the community expressing his pleasure at <br /> serving Redwood City. He values this community and wishes to continue connected to <br /> the needs of Redwood City. Mayor Aguirre introduced his new assistant Marco Negrete. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Public Comment <br /> Aaron Wilkins, representing Computers for a Cause, introduced this new nonprofit <br /> organization. He wished to establish relationships with local cities and is looking for <br /> warehouse space and retail fronts. Mr. Watkins said they take in unwanted and <br /> inoperative computers and e-waste and then refurbish and redistribute them to people <br /> in need, including schools, and others. <br /> James Lee, resident and member of Occupy Redwood City, spoke about Pete's Harbor <br /> and the appeal that was filed. He inquired when the issue will be presented to Council. <br /> He expressed concerns regarding veterans who live at Pete's Harbor and their access <br /> to treatment in Palo Alto; the need for communication with everyone involved with as <br /> much notice as possible; the need to help people stay there or somewhere else before <br /> eviction; development at One Marina and Cargill; climate change and sea level rise. He <br /> favors development being concentrated in downtown and along the EI Camino Real. <br /> M/S Bain/Seybert to approve the Consent Calendar with 6.2 C pulled. <br /> One Council Member stated that he was disappointed that the word "disposal" <br /> concerning certain property was still being used in agenda item 6.1 B, but he will support <br /> it. He stated that the word disposition was a better word.
