5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Recognition of Recently Naturalized Citizens -Alicia C. Aguirre, Mayor <br /> Mayor Aguirre recognized numerous recently naturalized United States of America <br /> citizens, and presented them with a certificate of congratulations. The City Council <br /> joined the Mayor in congratulating the attendees and took a group picture. <br /> B. Proclamation: 75th Anniversary of Parks, Recreation, and Community <br /> Services Department - Chris Beth, Parks, Recreation and Community <br /> Services Director and Mike Lynch, Chair, Parks, Recreation and <br /> Community Services Commission <br /> Mayor Aguirre presented a proclamation to Chris Beth, Parks Recreation and <br /> Community Services Director for this accomplishment. Michael Lynch, Chair of the <br /> Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission was also present and a <br /> recipient. The Mayor read portions of the proclamation and thanked Mr. Beth for his <br /> leadership. The City Council congratulated the Parks Recreation and Community <br /> Services Department and the Commission on this special anniversary. <br /> C. Rotary Club Presentation of $20,000 donation (from proceeds of the <br /> 2012 Rotary Farmers' Market season) to the Redwood City Parks, <br /> Recreation and Community Services Department - Chris Beth, Parks, <br /> Recreation and Community Services Director by Lilia Ledezma, President <br /> of the Redwood City Rotary Club <br /> Lidia Ledezma, President of the Redwood City Rotary Club, presented Mr. Beth with a <br /> $20,000 donation from the Redwood City Rotary Club. She spoke highly about the <br /> impact parks have in the quality of life of a community and thanked Mr. Beth for his <br /> dedication. <br /> D. Presentation: Customer Service Plan by SamTrans - Aidan Hughes, <br /> SamTrans Service Plan Project Manager for SamTrans, Caltrain, and SMCTA <br /> (San Mateo County Transportation Authority) <br /> Mr. Hughes made a presentation to the City Council (on file). Council asked specific <br /> questions about ridership and budget. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Mr. Halperin commented on the SamTrans Service Plan and opined that those in <br /> Western Redwood City would be affected negatively. He expressed concern that <br /> people do not realize these changes are coming and named certain local destinations <br /> that will no longer be served, including libraries, parks, and hospitals. <br /> James Jonas commented on national sea level rise report and expressed concern <br /> about possible impacts in case of an earthquake on water levels.
