Februa'ry 9, 2004

Subject
Award of Contract- Fire Station #9, 3rd Floor Kitchenette Renovation Project

Recommendation
Award the contract for the Fire Station #9, 3rd Floor Kitchenette Renovation Project, to
the lowest informal bidder, A & A Construction Co. of. Los Gatos, California, for their bid
of $15,000.

Background
Fire Station #9 has been in use for the last 16 years, and the 3rd floor kitchenette
(originally designed as a "Break/Lounge Room") has been used as the 3rd floor kitchen,
for the Fire Department Staff. With the constant use, the casework and appliances
have now reached the point where replacement is required.

Based on Engineering and Construction staff estimate of the replacement cost being
under $20,000, the informal bid process was pursued, and the following three (3)
informal bids were received:

A & A Construction - Los Gatos, CA. $15,000.00
Bridger Construction - Redwood City, CA $18,037.00
Coast Side Associates - Half Moon Bay, CA $18,234.00

Alternative
The only alternative would be to leave the kitchenette as is, and leave the obsolete
casework and appliances.

Fiscal Impacts
Funds in the amount of $18,000 are appropriated in the FY 2003-2004 Capital
Improvement Program budget under the Civic Facilities Miscellaneous Replacement
Program, for this project.

/B'rian~ ~ /~/ B~uce Lied'strand Ed Everett
'-~Sen'~_~i~,il Engineer Community Development Services Department City Manager
JP/BL:ss
S/librar~/reports/lynch/Award_FS #9 Kitchenette Renovation
