Staff has reviewed the bids and <br /> checked Caggiano General Engineering's work references. Staff believes that the low <br /> bid is reasonable and recommends awarding the contract to Caggiano General <br /> Engineering, Inc. <br /> Construction is expected to begin in February 2013, and conclude within 60 calendar <br /> days. The city will give notice to all residents and businesses that might be affected by <br /> the construction. Additionally, the contractor is obligated to notice area residents and <br /> businesses two weeks prior to the start of work on each street and/or two days prior to <br /> any interruption of water service. Signage that contains project information will be <br /> posted at the construction sites and construction updates will be available on the city's <br /> website. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> Council may choose not to award the contract and direct staff to redesign and/or rebid <br /> this project. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT <br /> Funds for this project have been approved and appropriated in the Fiscal Year 2012/13 <br /> budget as Water Fund Capital Projects — Water System Seismic Update which has an <br /> available balance of $583,921 as of November 30, 2012. <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW <br /> As the lead agency, City of Redwood City has determined that the Water Main Seismic <br /> Improvement Project meets the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) exemption <br /> criteria as set forth in Section 15302(C) (replacement or reconstruction of existing utility <br /> system and/or facilities involving negligible or no expansion of capacity). Furthermore, <br /> this project has been designed compliant with the city's Engineering Standards and <br /> accepted practices. <br />
