6.2.A. - Page 1
RE PO RT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the Cit Mana er
January 14, 2013
SUBJECT
Final Acceptance — Shoreway-Skyway Bike Improvements Project
RECOMMENDATION
Accept, by motion, the Shoreway-Skyway Bike Improvements Project, and authorize the
release of bonds and the retention according to city procedures.
BACKGROUND
On May 21, 2012, Council awarded the construction contract for the Shoreway-Skyway
Bike Improvements Project to Interstate Grading and Paving of South San Francisco.
The project was awarded for a base bid of $105,376.50.
ANALYSIS
Construction began in August, 2012 and concluded in October, 2012. The project is
successfully complete and one change order totaling $3,431.45 was issued for a final
contract amount of $108,807.95. The change order resulted from quantity adjustments
and the contractor not using the contracted Underutilized Disadvantaged Business
Enterprise (UDBE) subcontractor.
The project was funded through a grant from the Surface Transportation Program (STP)
and the Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ) funds. The
grant funds paid not only for the construction, but for design and staff time. The City
was obligated to a $5,000 match.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to accept the project or authorize the release of bonds and
retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council action, and
public contracting code.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to accepting the completion of this project.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
N/A
