6.2.D. - Page 1
RE PO RT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the Cit Mana er
January 14, 2013
SUBJECT
Final Acceptance - Redwood Creek Channel Wall Replacement Project (Redwood
Avenue and Valota Road)
RECOMMENDATION
Accept, by motion, the Redwood Creek Channel Wall Replacement Project (Redwood
Avenue and Valota Road), and authorize the release of bonds and the retention
according to city procedures.
BACKGROUND
On July 9, 2012, Council awarded the construction contract for the Redwood Creek
Channel Wall Replacement Project (Redwood Avenue and Valota Road) to Soil
Engineering Construction of Redwood City. The project was awarded for a base bid of
$373,958.
ANALYSIS
Construction began in August, 2012, and concluded in October, 2012. The project was
successfully completed in accordance with the plans and specifications. Two (2)
change orders totaling $1,928.55 were issued. The final contract amount is
$375,866.55, which is less than 1% more than the contract amount initially awarded.
Change orders resulted from construction staging area rental fees.
The project replaced a 200-foot length of Redwood Creek Channel, which had been
constructed prior to 1967 and was showing signs of failure. The project was completed
in compliance with Army Corps of Engineers and California Regional Water Quality
Control Board permits.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to accept the project or authorize the release of bonds and
retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council action, and
public contracting code.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to accepting the completion of this project.
