6.2.A. - Page 1 RE PO RT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the Cit Mana er January 28, 2013 SUBJECT Final Acceptance — Pump Station #25 and Additional Pump Station Improvements P roj ect RECOMMENDATION Accept, by motion, the Pump Station #25 and Additional Pump Station Improvements Project and authorize the release of bonds and retention according to city procedures. BACKGROUND On April 23, 2012, Council awarded the construction contract for the rehabilitation of Pump Station #25 and Additional Pump Station Improvements Project. The improvements included removing the failing PVC lining inside the wet well and coating it with polyurethane coating. The flexible coupling vault adjacent to the wet well that settled was removed and flexible ball joint pipeline was installed on the force mains. At another sixteen (16) pump stations, each wet well opening was provided with a safety grate to prevent accidental falls into the wet well. Construction started in October 2012 and was substantially completed in early December 2012. Final walkthrough was conducted with PWS staff on December 21, 2012 and no outstanding items were found; therefore, the project has achieved final completion. ANALYSIS The contract was awarded for a base bid of $153,980. The project was successfully completed in accordance with the plans and specifications. Change orders were issued totaling $2,864.04. The final contract amount is $156,844.04 which is 1.9% more than the initially awarded contract amount. Change orders resulted from additional work required to field measure the safety grate and providing detail drawings to the manufacturer. ALTERNATIVES Council may choose not to accept the project and/or authorize the release of bonds and retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council action, and the public contracting code.
