6.2.A. - Page 1
RE PO RT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the Cit Mana er
February 25, 2013
SUBJECT
Resolution Waiving Notice of the County of San Mateo's Lease of Real Property
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a Resolution waiving notice of the County of San Mateo's Lease of Real Property.
BACKGROUND
On January 30, 2013, San Mateo County advised the City of its intent to lease office
space at One Circle Star Plaza in San Carlos. Because the parking garage that
supports this office use is located in Redwood City the County is also required to
coordinate its efforts with the City. The lease will be presented to the Board of
Supervisors on February 26, 2013. Government Code Section 25351 requires that
whenever the board of supervisors of a county decides to enter into a lease of an
existing building within the incorporated territory of a city, the board shall notify in
writing, at least 60 days prior to entering into a lease, the city clerk of the city where the
building is to be leased. Pursuant to Government Code Section 25351, the City can, by
resolution, agree to waive the required 60-day notice.
ANALYSIS
The County has requested the City Council adopt a resolution waiving the 60-day
noticing requirement. The County intends to lease its office space at One Circle Star
Plaza to an unnamed entity.
By adopting the attached resolution, the City Council enables the County to move
forward with the lease without delay.
ALTERNATIVES
If the City Council chooses to not adopt the resolution, then a 60-day public notice
requirement would be in effect.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact directly connected to this action.
