6.1.A. - Page 10
Council Member Seybert reported out that the Council of Cities event took place last
Friday night and that Mayor Aguirre, Vice Mayor Gee and Council Members Foust and
Seybert were in attendance. Mayor Aguirre was elected to the MTC (Metropolitan
Transportation Commission) at this event.
Council Member Foust explained what the MTC works in the bay area to improve our
roads. She also asked, through the Mayor, if there is a way to correct misinformation
that is presented at the podium and she made clarifications regarding statements made
earlier by various speakers. Namely that the developer of Mel's Bowl was the Urban
Housing Group, now Summer Hill Home Community (a now market rate apartment
complex); former Mayor and former Council Member Howard is not a member of WETA
(Water Emergency Transit Authority) but she is a member of WTA (Water Transit
Advocates); to her knowledge, there is no discussion on either a private or public ferry
regarding Pete's Harbor; there have been two possible public ferry sites identified - one
in South San Francisco and one in Redwood City at the end of Seaport Boulevard; and,
that much information can be found online at each entity's website. She noted that
there is a staff report that explains the issues and the complexities on the city website.
She said it is important to report out the facts and that people may have opinions but
they cannot make up the facts.
Mayor Aguirre also spoke in favor of a section posted to set the record straight as being
helpful and also encouraged people to get the information themselves that is out there
for clarity.
Council Member Pierce participated with the Bair Island Task force on an event that
included Fish and Wildlife, the Port and others, to look at breaches in the levees as part
of the restoration process to allow natural tidal action to occur there. She said work is
still underway on the pedestrian bridge, hopes it may open next Fall, but that people
may already observe that the wildlife is coming back there from certain locations, and
that monumental progress is being made. She also attended a Caltrain Modernization
Local Policy Group and said they are going to release their Corridor Electrification
Notice of Preparation that will start the environmental process.
Vice Mayor Gee congratulated Council Member Pierce as being a recipient of the
Peninsula Arts Council's Diamond Awards for the Arts.
B. City Council Committee Reports
C. City Manager (Oral) Update - Dr. Bell had no update.
10. ADJOURN — M/S Seybert/Gee in memory of former Mayor Paul Keckley at 8:18
p.m. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote with Council Member Bain
absent.
Respectfully submitted,
Silvia Vonderlinden,
City Clerk
Submitted for approval at the Council Meeting of February 25, 2013.
JOINT CITY COUNCIUSUCCESSOR AGENCY BOARD January 28, 2013
MEETING MINUTES PAGE 10
