Redwood City Costco Gasoline Expansion ProjE 7.A. - Page 438
August 4,2011 ruye3
As shown in Table 9, the example proximate Costco locations currently have higher total fuel
transactions and average daily gallons sold than the Redwood City site. Additionally, while the
warehouses are all smaller than Redwood City, the average daily warehouse sales are also higher
than existing sales at Redwood City. This shows that the Redwood City Costco Gasoline facility is
currently generating fewer trips and selling less fuel than other locations in the area. The numbers
reported are total transactions and sales (not just peak hour transaction and sales) and, therefore,
represent the full demand for the Redwood City location and are not metered or constrained by what
the existing 3 island facility can process during the peak hour (i.e., the numbers shown for Redwood
City are not lower just because it has fewer fueling positions).
Trip Generation Range at Other Costco Gasoline Facilities
To provide as much supporting information and context for the possible range of trip generation,
activity data and trip generation summarized for all of the existing 16 and 20 fueling position Costco
Gasoline facilities in the transportation database. The Costco trip generation database was then
quarried and screened for all available data from sites with activity characteristics (membership
base, market area, warehouse and fuel station activity volume) similar to or greater than that of
Redwood City. This resulted in trip generation data sample set for 18 existing Costco Gasoline
facilities all of which are either 16 or 20 fueling positions and similar or greater in activity to the
existing Redwood City site. The list of these locations and how their activity and trip generation
relates to the existing Redwood City location is provided in Table 10.
Kittelson&Associates,Inc.
