T�e Board taok tne additional step of adopting a reusable bag ordinance <br /> applicable to retail establisl�ments within unincorporated San Mateo County. This ordinance will <br /> b�corr�e �ffective April 22�d, 20�3. <br /> In arder to maximize the environmental benefits outlined in the �1R, and to provide affected <br /> retailers the certainty af a regiona}ly consistent set of regulations, we are hopefuf that your city <br /> will adopt a reusable bag ordinance applicable to retail establishments within your city's <br /> jurisdiction. If each participating agency adopts the ardinance analyzed by tl�e �IR, mare than <br /> 500 m�llion piastic bags will be ta€�en out of circulation each year, benefitting the region's air <br /> quality, �iological resources, hydrolagy, anc! water quality. <br /> As a participating agency to the Program EIR, your ci�y may use it to adopt the county's <br /> ordinance by referer�ce, in complEance wi#h CEQA. No additional environmental studies or <br /> anakyses are required.
