New development shail maintain and enhance pedestrian, bicvcle, transit, and vehicle connectivity with a hierarchy of streets and pathwavs, consistent with the street typologv identified in the Redwood City General Plan (Fi�ure BE-14). Primary pedestrian access to buildin�s shall be from the sidewalk. C. Pedestrian-Oriented Desi�n/Pedestrian Access. The desi�n of new proiects shall promote walkabilitv and connectivity to include desi�n and orientation standards such as: 1. Enhanced Streetscapes. Streets shall be enhanced with streetscape elements, includin� but not limited to landscapin� and pedestrian amenities such as benches, pedestrian- scaled li�hting, trash enclosures, and bicvcle stora�e. 2. Internal Connections. A svstem of pedestrian walkways shall connect all buildin�s on a site to each other, to on-site automobile and bicycle parkin� areas, and to any on-site open space areas and pedestrian amenities. 3. Internal Pedestrian Walkways Width. Internal walkways shall be a minimum of six feet wide where located adiacent to anv common open space areas. Internal walkwavs elsewhere on the propertv shall be a minimum of four feet wide and paved with permeable materials, unless walkways are located near swimmin� pools or in heavily trafficked areas. 4. li�hting. Li�htin� shall be incorporated alon�sidewalks or other pedestrian walkwavs to enhance the pedestrian environment and provide for public safetv. Li�htin�shall be low mounted, downward castin�so as to reduce li�ht trespass onto adiacent properties. 5. Connections to Primarv Street. Connections between on-site walkways and the public sidewalk shall be provided. An on-site walkwav shall connect the primary buildin� entry or entries to a public sidewalk on each street fronta�e. Such walkwav shall be the shortest practical distance between the primary entry and sidewalk, generally no more than 125 percent of the strai�ht line distance. 54.4 Open Space Regulations A. Residential Open Space Required. Outdoor recreation and leisure space shall be provided for each residential-only or mixed-use proiect containin� residential uses. B. General Residential Open Space Requirements. 1. Minimum open space required. The required minimum amount of open space shall be 125 square feet per unit. The minimum open space may be met throu�h a combination of common, private, and/or quasi-public open space provided on-site.
