8.A. - Page 1
RE PO RT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the Cit Mana er
April 22, 2013
SUBJECT
Appointment to the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission for one
unexpired seat ending May 31, 2014
RECOMMENDATION
By roll call vote, appoint one applicant to one unexpired seat on the Parks Recreation
and Community Services Commission. The list of applicants selected for consideration
includes: Margaret McDonough Becker, Richard Hunter and Anne Palu.
BACKGROUND
On January 31, 2013 the City Clerk was notified of the vacancy. The vacancy created
is for an unexpired seat expiring on May 31, 2014.
ANALYSIS
The City Clerk's office initiated the recruitment period which ran between February 22
through March 25, 2013. The outreach included ads in a local newspaper, a local
magazine, as well as an e-news blast and posting on the city's website.
Sixteen applications were received electronically. Of these, thirteen applications met the
voter and residency requirements. Three applicants did not qualify because they did
not reside within Redwood City. Out of the thirteen qualifying applications, the City
Council selected four for interviewing. One of those applicants withdrew her interest on
April 15, 2013.
The City Council will conduct interviews on April 22, 2013 prior to the regular meeting.
Appointments are scheduled for that same evening.
ALTERNATIVES
The City Council could opt to leave this seat vacant or to initiate a new recruitment
process.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
Not a project under CEQA.
