While the challenge of climate x �� '���� ' '� - <br /> -.� <br /> change is unprecedented, local-level solutions can <br /> reduce emissions, increase efficiency, promote <br /> economic development, and improve quality of life for <br /> residents. Together, we can conserve our scarce resources, thereby saving our families and <br /> companies money, increasing the resilience of our economy and emergence of new markets <br /> that prioritize green technologies. <br /> The City of Redwood City has taken a significant step toward a more sustainable future with this <br /> Climate Action Plan. The Plan has identified a variety of areas and opportunities to reduce GHG <br /> emissions within the community and City operations that, along with statewide efforts, can <br /> achieve a reductions of 15 percent below 2005 levels by 2020. From the baseline year of 2005 <br /> to the target year of 2020, this Plan recommends that the City: <br /> • Achieve a 15% energy use reduction compared with Title 24 in residential and <br /> commercial new construction with adopted and updated Green Building Codes <br /> • Achieve a 15% energy use reduction in existing residential buildings and commercial <br /> facilities by targeting a 20% participation rate in residential and commercial energy audit, <br /> rebate and incentive, and upgrade programs <br /> • Achieve a 5% energy use reduction in commercial facilities participating in the upcoming <br /> Green Business Program with an overall 20% participation rate <br /> • Achieve a 15% energy use reduction in targeted municipal facilities by performing <br /> energy audits and upgrades on half the existing square footage <br /> • Replace half the existing unmetered streetlights with more energy efficient LED lighting <br /> and document the energy and cost savings <br /> • Install over 900kW of solar power generation capacity for municipal facilities <br /> • Achieve a 22% reduction in water consumption through water-efficient appliances and <br /> fixtures rebates, adopted water ordinances, and the ongoing Recycled Water Project <br /> 2 <br />
