6.1.E. - Page 1 <br /> RE PO RT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Cit Mana er <br /> April 22, 2013 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Approval and Authorization to Execute Agreement with the County of San Mateo for <br /> Information and Referral Services provided at the Fair Oaks Community Center <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve and authorize City Manager to sign Agreement between the San Mateo County <br /> Human Services Agency and the City of Redwood City for Information and Referral <br /> Services provided at the Fair Oaks Community Center for FY 13-14, 14-15, 15-16. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> In 1982, the County of San Mateo first contracted with the City of Redwood City to <br /> provide information and referral services at the Fair Oaks Community Center to low- <br /> income residents of Redwood City, North Fair Oaks, Woodside, Atherton, and Portola <br /> Valley. <br /> Since that time, the program has grown to meet the demand for services with joint <br /> funding from both the County and the City. Approximately 80% of the residents seeking <br /> services are from Redwood City and approximately 20% of the residents seeking <br /> services are from unincorporated North Fair Oaks. <br /> ANALYSIS <br /> The Information and Referral Program provides information and referral, needs <br /> assessments, crisis intervention, short-term emergency assistance, shelter referrals, <br /> forms and translation assistance, housing assistance, transportation assistance, public <br /> benefits assistance, and advocacy. The program serves as a "first-stop" for individuals <br /> and families in need in our community. Working closely with the County's Human <br /> Services Agency and other local non-profit organizations, the information and referral <br /> program is able to help thousands of individuals and families in need each year. <br /> This contract is a three year contract which will be amended as needed each year to <br /> reflect exact funding amounts. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> Council could choose not to sign the agreement, and not accept funding from the San <br /> Mateo County Human Services Agency for the Fair Oaks Community Center <br /> Information and Referral program. <br />
