6.1.1. - Page 1 <br /> RE PO RT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Cit Mana er <br /> May 20, 2013 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Peninsula Celebration Association's 75th Annual Fourth of July Celebration <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Authorize execution of a letter permit for the Fourth of July Celebration sponsored by <br /> the Peninsula Celebration Association and the Redwood City Parks, Recreation and <br /> Community Services Department. Approve by motion, the temporary suspension of <br /> parking meter rates in downtown on Thursday, July 4th, 2013. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> The Peninsula Celebration Association (PCA), in partnership with the Redwood City <br /> Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, has submitted to the Police <br /> Department an event permit application requesting permission to conduct the 75t" <br /> Annual Fourth of July Celebration. The Fourth of July Celebration continues a long- <br /> standing tradition of providing entertainment and events that benefit the community, <br /> promote Redwood City, generate civic pride, and encourage visitors and commerce in <br /> the downtown area. The annual "Fun Run" will be conducted along the parade route <br /> from 8:45 am to 9:45 am. The traditional parade will commence at 10:00 am and last <br /> until approximately 12:30 pm. The arts & crafts fair and festival will be held from 9:00 <br /> am to 5:00 pm. Parks, Recreation and Community Services will sponsor live musical <br /> entertainment in Court House Square from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm. A fireworks display <br /> will be held at the Port of Redwood City from 9:30 pm until approximately 9:50 pm. <br /> On July 4t", the parade route and line-up area will be reserved from 6:00 am until 2:00 <br /> pm. The arts and crafts fair and festival area will be reserved at 5:00 pm on Wednesday <br /> July 3rd through 8:00 pm on Thursday July 4t". Court House Square will be reserved <br /> from 11:30 am to 5:00 pm. <br /> The parade will be conducted in the areas detailed on the attached map provided by the <br /> PCA in their letter dated March 22, 2013. Parade staging areas require road closures <br /> throughout the Centennial Neighborhood. The festival will be conducted on Middlefield <br /> from Broadway to Marshall, Hamilton from Marshall to Middlefield, Jefferson from <br /> Marshall to the entrance to the Jefferson parking structure, and Broadway between <br /> Main Street and Winslow. Live musical entertainment will take place within Court House <br /> Square. Minor alterations to the parade route and festival areas may be required to <br /> facilitate these events. Should alterations be required, any change to the parade route <br />
