C. - Page 5 <br /> It would be beneficial for law enforcement agencies to take advantage of low cost <br /> Spanish education available through the POST progr�am. <br /> Response <br /> Council agrees with the finding. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> Recommendation #1 <br /> The cities of Atherton, Colma, Daly City, East Palo Alto, Hillsborough, Pacifica, <br /> Redwood City, And San Bruno develop a written policy/procedure for language access <br /> based on the guidelines set forth by the United States Department of Justice and <br /> customized for California Law by Lexipol in Policy 368 <br /> Response <br /> The recommendation has not yet been implemented, but will be implemented in <br /> the future. The Redwood City Police Department is in the process of reviewing <br /> and adopting a policy based on Lexipol Policy 368 that will satisfy this <br /> recommendation. The Redwood City Police Department has a goal of adopting <br /> this policy within the year 2013. <br /> Recommendation #2 <br /> The cities of Brisbane and Hillsborough subscribe to a telephonic translation service that <br /> provides immediate access for dispatchers and officers in the field. <br /> Response <br /> This recommendation does not apply to the Redwood City Police Department. <br /> Recommendation #3 <br /> Every County policing agency examine the feasibility of providing smart phones to patrol <br /> officers so that they can access free translation services such as Google Translate. <br /> Response <br /> This recommendation requires further analysis. The Redwood City Police <br /> Department continually strives to be on the cutting edge of technological <br /> advances that enhance the capabilities of their staff to provide an exemplary level <br /> of service to the Redwood City community. As we prioritize our technology <br /> solutions, the use of smart phones is just one of the technological advances that <br /> the Police Department is examining for use in the field not only for translation <br /> purposes but for numerous other front line law enforcement applications. <br /> Recommendation #4 <br /> Every County policing agency encourage and financially support participation in POST <br /> language skills classes. <br /> Response <br />
