D. - Page 1 <br /> RE PO RT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Cit Mana er <br /> June 10, 2013 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Temporary suspension of parking meter rates in downtown <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve by motion, the temporary suspension of parking meter rates in downtown on <br /> Thursday, July 4th, 2013. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> On July 4, 2013, downtown Redwood City will host the Independence Day Parade. Due <br /> to the parade route and various celebration-related events, much of downtown's <br /> metered on-street parking spaces will be unavailable. <br /> ANALYSIS <br /> Staff recommends the suspension of parking meter rates on July 4, 2013 from 10:00 am <br /> through 6:00 pm on the following streets and city-owned parking lots: 1) all streets <br /> bounded by Veterans Boulevard, Brewster Avenue, EI Camino Real, and Walnut Street, <br /> and 2) off-street parking lots: Perry Lot, Winslow Lot, Main Street Lot, City Hall lot, and <br /> Library Lots A and B. <br /> City Council may temporarily suspend parking meter rates according to the City <br /> Municipal Code Section 20.133: <br /> Sec. 20.133. PROVISIONS FOR TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF METER <br /> RATES: <br /> The provisions of this Division may be suspended from time to time by <br /> motion of the City Council in any case where the Council finds that strict <br /> compliance would not serve the public interest, including but not limited to <br /> the use of public streets and sidewalks for celebrations, special public <br /> events, celebration of holiday seasons and any other such activity or <br /> purpose as the City Council in its sole discretion shall determine.
