6.1.E. - Page 1
RE PO RT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the Cit Mana er
June 24, 2013
SUBJECT
First Amendment to Agreement between the County of San Mateo and City of Redwood
City, Fiscal Agent for Redwood City 2020
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute the first amendment to
the agreement between the County of San Mateo and City of Redwood City acting as
fiscal agent for Redwood City 2020 related to the Alcohol and Other Drug Initiative,
increasing the agreement by $75,000 resulting in a total agreement not to exceed
$225,000 and extending the agreement term from June 30, 2013 to December 31,
2013.
BACKGROUND
Since 2008, Redwood City 2020 has led a collaborative effort in Redwood City to
address environmental factors that contribute to alcohol and other drug (AOD) abuse
behaviors. The goals of this effort are to: decrease youth access to and abuse of AOD;
reduce community tolerance of youth AOD use/abuse; diminish youth AOD related
problems; increase youth participation in meaningful opportunities connected to their
schools, families and communities; create and enforce healthy policies aimed at making
AOD use unappealing, and; raise community support and recognition of AOD issues
and efforts. In August 2012, the City of Redwood City, acting as Redwood City 2020's
fiscal agent, entered into an agreement with the County of San Mateo to receive
$150,000 in funding support for the Alcohol and Other Drug Strategy Initiative in order to
accomplish the above objectives.
ANALYSIS
The County of San Mateo has increased the maximum obligation by $75,000 to a new
maximum of $225,000 and has extended the term of the agreement from June 30, 2013
to December 31, 2013. This first amendment will enable Redwood City 2020 to continue
its work with its current partner agencies to provide a variety of services that address
the defined goals of the initiative.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may elect not to authorize the City Manager to execute this first amendment.
