Redwood City's 18th Annual Water Conservation Poster Contest - <br /> Terence Kyaw, Assistant Public Works Director <br /> The Mayor thanked the students for participating in this contest and <br /> complimented them on their artistic skills and the final product—the 2013 <br /> calendar. The Mayor recognized each student individually and presented <br /> each one with a certificate of recognition. The full Council complimented the <br /> student and H2o- the drop, came out for a photo opportunity. <br /> B. Proclamation: Gold Nugget Grand Award Recipient Bill Butler, <br /> president of W.L. Butler -Alicia C. Aguirre, Mayor <br /> Mayor Aguirre presented the award to Mr. Butler and thanked him for all <br /> his contributions to the community. Mr. Butler appreciated the recognition <br /> and noted that it takes a team to make things happen. <br /> C. In Recognition of the Downtown Events Volunteers - Downtown <br /> Business Group Board and Volunteers; and, Hometown Holidays Appreciation <br /> Mayor Aguirre recognized Keith and Nina Kadera as well as Lori and Eric Lochtefeld for <br /> their contributions to the downtown and their investment in making this a vibrant <br /> community. Mayor Aguirre called the Fox Theater a historic gem and considers the <br /> Hometown Holidays a celebration that all can participate in. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Faye Bohn, a teacher in Redwood City and bicycle commuter, spoke in memory of <br /> Leyla Beban, the student who passed away in an accident last week. She spoke in <br /> support of more bicycle safety within the City with wider street designs, which included <br /> more public education that bikes have the same access as cars and to allow three-foot <br /> margin; when parking, to look over one's shoulder; do not speed up to pass a bike; turn <br /> behind bikes; continue buitding bike lanes with Safe Routes to Schools; put police on <br /> bikes for patrolling; and, biking is great way to get around the City. <br /> Dr. Bell clarified that Staff is coming back on February 25, 2013 for an assessment of <br /> the General Plan's guidelines for road diets and other measures. <br /> Paula Dresden invited everyone to come to their 20th annual Bethlehem AD event that <br /> is a living nativity sponsored by the Tapestry Church, but with involvement from almost <br /> every church in the City, assistance from the Police department, as well as the Boy and <br /> Girl Scouts and City Council Members. She opined that this ev�nt brings back the true <br /> meaning of Christmas and it is worth it to see it.
