_ _._..v_w. _,, . .:......— __ a_..._...,.. ._.
items were going to be covered on this: the environmental initiative and the employee
cohorts.
Ms. Vicki Sherman, Environmental Initiatives Manager, provided a brief update on the
Environmental Initiatives and specific examples of accomplishments from the last year.
She noted the Climate Protection Action Plan, energy efficiency initiatives, electric
vehicle charging stations and others. She also mentioned some of the work from the
Council subcommittee. One Council Member was pleased with the progress made.
Mayor Aguirre asked about how many charge stations Redwood City has and Ms.
Sherman said 22. One Council Member suggested reaching out to Siemens and
Chevron to look at options and programs on energy efficiencies. Ms. Sherman said that
is something she is always happy to do. Dr. Bell said that the goal is to have this go to
the Council subcommittee and then come back to the Council for direction.
Dr. Bell reported out on the employee cohort groups (there are four) and how over the
course of the last year they presented their ideas to the Department Head team. He
reported out on some of the items that were approved and are already being
implemented. Dr. Bell invited Mr. Nahara, Management Analyst, to present a web portal
that will facilitate communications with residents. Mr. Nahara covered the mobile
application CRM by Public Stuff. He shared various examples of how this mobile
application, provided by Public Stuff, can be used for various departments (Police
Department, Code Enforcement and the City Clerk). He provided an example of a
request being submitted and its workflow through the mobile application. He shared
some information on widgets and how these can be very usefut to residents.
One Council Member was very supportive of this application and is really excited about
the possibilities around this product. The cost of Public Stuff was discussed and some
Council Members found the cost reasonable. Dr. Bell noted that this is being funded
through the contingency/innovation fund the Council allocated last year in the amount of
$250,000. One Council Member asked if the tool allows for database searches, GPS,
and pictures. Staff confirmed that this was doable. The graffiti reporting was suggested
for inclusion in this tool. Another Council Member was very happy with this possibility.
Vice Mayor Gee pondered if there was another phase where businesses will be part of
this and get integrated as well.
The last initiative was the Youth initiative, which was presented by Chris Beth, Director
of Parks Recreation and Community Services. Dr. Bell noted that there is an opportunity
to enlarge it and maybe call it a Community for All Ages. Mr. Beth noted how much he
appreciates his partners in this initiative: Mr. Genesy and Chief Gamez. He mentioned
Redwood City 2020 and the benefits of this partnership. He also covered PE+ and
literacy. He provided multiple examples of growing partnerships and the collaborative
spirit that this is creating in the organization, especially among staff. Dr. Beth noted that
since youth, adults and seniors are all being served it may be a good time to broaden
this initiative to include all those age segments. Dr. Bell got confirmation that there was
a general consensus to change it from Youth to a Community for All Ages (which still
includes the youth). The Mayor too does not want to lose the "youth" in this new
concept and Dr. Bell will make sure it does not get diluted.
JOINT CITY COUNCIL/SUCCESSOR AGENCY BOARD February 11, 2013
MEETING MINUTES PAGE 6
MINUTE BOOK NO. 64
Page No. 277
