6.1.A. - Page 1
RE PO RT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the Cit Mana er
July 22, 2013
SUBJECT
Amendment No. 1 to Agreement for Professional Services with TJCAA, Inc. for the
Sanitary Sewer Pump Station No. 10 Improvements Project.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve, by motion, Amendment No. 1 to the Agreement for Professional Services with
TJCAA, Inc. of Oakland in the amount of $8,606.00 for additional construction
administration services for the Sanitary Sewer Pump Station No. 10 Improvements
P roj ect.
BACKGROUND
On April 23, 2012 the City Council approved an agreement with TJCAA, Inc. to provide
professional design services in conjunction with the Sanitary Sewer Pump Station No.
10 Improvements Project. The agreement was in the amount of $69,100. The scope of
work consists of improving the existing electrical system at the pump station to improve
the reliability of the wastewater services provided in the Redwood Shores area. The
project includes replacing existing motor control devices, field instrumentation, and
facility controls.
Sanitary Sewer Pump Station No. 10 (SSPS 10) is a crucial central pumping location
that receives wastewater from sixteen other area pump stations. Flows from SSPS 10
are pumped to the South Bayside System Authority wastewater treatment plant.
ANALYSIS
On December 17, 2012, the City Council awarded the contract for the construction of
SSPS 10 to Blocka Construction, Inc. The consultant, TJCAA, Inc., has been involved
in reviewing the shops drawings and answering RFI for the project. Amendment No. 1
will allow TJCAA, Inc., to provide additional construction administration services during
the construction phase of the project. The original proposed construction services were
minimal, but as the project progressed it is apparent that additional construction support
will secure a better final project. Therefore, staff recommends this amendment, which
will allow the consultant to review an additional twelve (12) contractor submittals and
resubmittals; prepare up to four change orders or change order cost estimates; and
conduct two site visits.
