(SMC) of Hayward, California, for their low bid of
$353, 540.
The project scope included minor roadside grading, litter removal, pruning of trees,
shrubs and vines, abatement of weeds and noxious species, removal and installation of
fencing, and the installation of mulch for weed prevention in the medians and roadsides
from Cypress Street to Broadway. The project excluded any cleanup where homeless
encampments were present.
ANALYSIS
The Woodside Road Median and Roadway Cleanup Project was successfully
completed in accordance with the plans and specifications for a total contract cost of
$353,540.00. No change orders were issued. The contract allowed 75 calendar days
for project completion and the project was completed in 65 days. Woodside Road
Median and Roadway Cleanup Project was substantially completed on April 19, 2013.
The improvements to the medians have improved the condition of the highway to a level
where the City's Public Works Division can efficiently absorb the routine maintenance of
the state highway. The City will also be exploring and assessing future projects as part
of the agreement with Caltrans to further improve the area such as long-term landscape
planting plan and continue to provide tree care and weed abatement.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to accept the project, or authorize the release of bonds and
retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract and prior Council action.
