t <br /> City of Redwood City October 1973 <br /> FIRE INSPECTOR <br /> DEFINITION <br /> Under general supervision, to perform fire prevention activities <br /> in the enforcement of applicable codes and regulations ; to conduct <br /> investigations as to the causes of fires ; and to do related work <br /> as required. <br /> EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> Enforces all local fire prevention ordinances and other applicable <br /> codes and regulations ; personally inspects commercial and industrial <br /> • buildings , schools , and related structures and facilities ; checks <br /> building plans for conformance with fire protection laws and <br /> regulations ; inspects shipping and port properties in accordance <br /> with applicable regulations ; investigates complaints from private <br /> citizens and other City departments relating to fire and safety <br /> hazards ; speaks before school groups and other organizations on <br /> fire prevention matters ; supervises and conducts fire drills in <br /> local schools ; provides fire prevention information to the general <br /> public and interprets various codes, ordinances , and regulations ; <br /> maintains ccmplete and accurate records on all inspection activities . <br /> MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> • License : Possession of an appropriate California operator's license <br /> issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles . <br /> and <br /> Knowledge of: Fire prevention methods , programs , and equipment, and <br /> familiarity with the public relations phases of fire <br /> prevention activities ; rules and regulations of the Fire <br /> Department; City fire protection and prevention codes and <br /> related State and County laws and regulations ; fire • <br /> investigation methods , procedures and equipment. <br /> and <br /> Ability to: Interpret and explain fire prevention laws and regulations ; <br /> check plans and drawings and recognize fire and safety <br /> hazards ; carry out and investigations of arson and.other <br /> suspected incendiary fires ; prepare clear, concise, and <br /> complete oral and written reports ; understand and carry out 1 <br /> oral and written directions ; establish and maintain coopera- <br /> tive relationships with those contacted in the course of <br /> work. <br /> and <br /> Acceptable Experience and Training: Some experience in municipal <br /> firefighting or fire prevention work supplemented by <br /> courses in fire prevention methods and techniques and <br /> the educational equivalent of the completion of the <br /> 12th grade. <br /> EXHIBIT A <br />
