ITEM 3-POLICE DEPARTMENT ART <br /> Commissioner Piulle reported that she and Commissioner Fischer met with <br /> Captain Granucci in December and agreed on three finalists. Two of the <br /> artists are local and one is from Loveland, Colorado. Captain Granucci will <br /> notify the three finalists and the next step will be to meet with the artists to <br /> look at their models of the project. She will keep the Commission informed <br /> of the progress of the group. <br /> ITEM 4- LIBRARY PROGRAMS <br /> Supervisor Hedges reported that she received a grant from the California <br /> Council for the Humanities to offer the Joe Marchi program on the <br /> development of the American musical. The five-part program will begin on <br /> January 25 and continue monthly until May 24. Press releases have been sent <br /> out and flyers are up announcing the program. <br /> Supervisor Hedges also noted that the Library has been awarded a $10,000 <br /> Immigrant Services grant from the State Library for the purchase of Spanish <br /> speaking library materials. The Main Library and the Fair Oaks Library will <br /> each receive $5,000. <br /> The following is a list of Library activities to be held during January: <br /> January 7 - Good-bye reception for Gloria Alexander, Childrens' <br /> Librarian for 22 years- 2:00-4:30pm <br /> January 10 - Project Read Tutor Training - 6-9pm <br /> January 13 - Youth Advisory Council - 4pm <br /> January 13 - Childrens' Program-"Eth-No-Tec"-Asian music and <br /> stories-7pm <br /> January 18 - Project Read Tutor Training - 6-9pm <br /> January 19 - Senior Health Lecture-"Women's Health As We Grow <br /> Older" - 10:30am <br /> January 20 - Youth Advisory Council - 6-9pm <br /> January 20 - Project Read Tutor Training - 6-9pm <br /> January 25 - "The Road to Oklahoma!: The Development of the <br /> American Musical 1865-1943"-first program of series, <br /> 7:30pm <br /> ITEM 5-AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM IDEA <br /> Commissioner Filippi said the committee is still obtaining information from <br /> the San Mateo County Arts Council. Superintendent Hartman said that extra <br /> copies of a booklet entitled "Education and the Arts" and a corresponding <br /> video have been ordered for the members of the committee. Commissioner <br /> Filippi will update the Commission at the February meeting. <br />
