ITEM 3-POLICE DEPARTMENT ART Commissioner Piulle reported that she and Commissioner Fischer met with Captain Granucci in December and agreed on three finalists. Two of the artists are local and one is from Loveland, Colorado. Captain Granucci will notify the three finalists and the next step will be to meet with the artists to look at their models of the project. She will keep the Commission informed of the progress of the group. ITEM 4- LIBRARY PROGRAMS Supervisor Hedges reported that she received a grant from the California Council for the Humanities to offer the Joe Marchi program on the development of the American musical. The five-part program will begin on January 25 and continue monthly until May 24. Press releases have been sent out and flyers are up announcing the program. Supervisor Hedges also noted that the Library has been awarded a $10,000 Immigrant Services grant from the State Library for the purchase of Spanish speaking library materials. The Main Library and the Fair Oaks Library will each receive $5,000. The following is a list of Library activities to be held during January: January 7 - Good-bye reception for Gloria Alexander, Childrens' Librarian for 22 years- 2:00-4:30pm January 10 - Project Read Tutor Training - 6-9pm January 13 - Youth Advisory Council - 4pm January 13 - Childrens' Program-"Eth-No-Tec"-Asian music and stories-7pm January 18 - Project Read Tutor Training - 6-9pm January 19 - Senior Health Lecture-"Women's Health As We Grow Older" - 10:30am January 20 - Youth Advisory Council - 6-9pm January 20 - Project Read Tutor Training - 6-9pm January 25 - "The Road to Oklahoma!: The Development of the American Musical 1865-1943"-first program of series, 7:30pm ITEM 5-AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM IDEA Commissioner Filippi said the committee is still obtaining information from the San Mateo County Arts Council. Superintendent Hartman said that extra copies of a booklet entitled "Education and the Arts" and a corresponding video have been ordered for the members of the committee. Commissioner Filippi will update the Commission at the February meeting.
