Council and City Attorney to discuss matters such as conflict of interest,
commission protocol, dealing with the press and teamwork building. In
addition, each commission or board would make a presentation on the
function of their particular group.
Commissioner Fischer suggested that the City Council not attend the
workshop. Commissioner Filippi said he felt each commission should meet
individually on an annual basis. Commissioner Distefano suggested that the
City Clerk's office give out information when people are applying for
positions on a board or commission so they have a better idea of what the
duties and responsibilities are. Commissioner Moran said that a similar
board and commission meeting was held many years ago and she found it to
be very helpful and that it provided a great way to network with the other
commission/board members. Commissioner Filippi suggested making a
history handbook for the Cultural Commission to give to prospective
members. Commissioner Fischer suggested that before someone applied for a
position on a board or commission, that it be required that they attend at least
one meeting of the board/commission they were applying for.
Commissioner Piulle said she felt the joint workshop would provide a good
way for members to interact with one another. Supervisor Hannon will take
back this information to the group she has been meeting with.
Follow-up to Item 1:
The Commissioners discussed the grant request for the Noteworthies and felt
that the members should look to other sources for funding. In addition, none
of the members of the group pay any type of fee for the class nor do they pay a
lab fee which would cover the cost of their accompanist.
M/S Fischer/Piulle: To decline funding for the Noteworthies.
1Vlotion passed.
The Commissioners asked that Supervisor Hannon send a letter to the
Noteworthies advising them of fheir decision on the grant and to suggest that
the class members pay a lab fee to pay for the accompanist and that they also
may want to consider fund raising activities.
ITEM 11-ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Commissioner Piulle thanked Chairperson Redington for the terrific job he
did as chairperson for the past year.
M/S Piulle/Distefano: To elect Jeff Filippi as chairperson of the Civic
Cultural Commission for 1994.
Unanimously passed.
