-Art Contest <br /> Supervisor Hannon reported that all winning entries are on display at the <br /> Main Library and a total of 1,850 entries were received. Congratulation letters <br /> to the individual artists were sent to the artists today inviting them to the <br /> awards ceremony at our June meeting held in the Library Community Room. <br /> She said Henry Ford School was the winning school with 71% of their <br /> students entered. Commissioner Piulle said she would like to involve the <br /> PTAs to get additional involvement for the contest. <br /> -Fox Theater Report of Council Decision <br /> Superintendent Hartman reported on the following City Council decisions <br /> regarding the Fox Theater: <br /> 1.) They voted unanimously to continue City support through 94-95 at the <br /> rate of $10,000 per production and review during the regular budget process. <br /> 2.) They voted unanimously to continue Civic Cultural Commission grant <br /> performances at the Fox Theater. <br /> 3.) They congratulated the people who were successful in securing listing of <br /> the Fox Theater on the National Register of Historic Places. <br /> 4.) They approved the 93-94 Fox Theater Task Force Goals by consensus. <br /> 5.) They passed the recommendation to grant $12,400.00 of Redevelopment <br /> Funds to hire a consultant with expertise in the restoration of historic <br /> theaters to complete an architectural conceptual plan for the building. <br /> 6.) They voted to remove the $300,000.00 from the discussion table and direct <br /> that in addition to the $12,400 architectural conceptual plan, that a market <br /> study possibly be undertaken by a student intern, to determine the realistic <br /> level of use the theater can generate and the best method for achieving this <br /> level of use; they directed the Peninsula Center Stage and the Fox Theater <br /> Task Force come back to the Council with a defined Capital Improvements <br /> Program for the Fox Theater; at that time when the presentation is made, the <br /> Board of Directors of the Redevelopment Agency will consider funding a part <br /> of that program; and in return for that funding, the Board of Directors of the <br /> Agency will want the Redevelopment Agency's investment, regardless of <br /> dollar amount, to be protected in some way. <br /> ITEM 6 - PUBLIC ART RECOMMENDATION-POTENTIAL REVENUE <br /> SOURCES <br /> -Correspondence from Mayor Buchan <br /> Mayor Buchan mentioned the impact that the Commission has on the <br /> selection of public art and she has reminded the Council of the Civic Cultural <br /> Commission's duty to review and suggest public art for City facilities. She <br /> said that the Belmont School District Project is still in question. She <br /> mentioned that the Red Morton Center budget is really tight and public art is <br /> not included in the budget and she does not know where the money could <br /> come from.
