May 12-18, 1996. The December minutes mentioned the proposed wording to
be used on the time capsule for the new City Hall.
Commissioner Piulle announced the Russian Festival will be held February
2-4. She said she noticed that the Redwood City Update did not include any
mention of the Cultural Commission in their article about City organizations
who work with outside agencies. She asked that a sub-committee be formed
to work on this matter so that the Cultural Commission's accomplishments
are included in future articles. This will be discussed later in the meeting.
Superintendent Hartman read a copy of a letter sent by Frank Bravo of the
Sequoia Alumni Association to Mike Church regarding the Alumni's vote to
provide $13,500.00 in funding towards the Carrington Hall structural study.
The two reference books that the Commission ordered in January have
arrived and are available for the Commissioners' use.
ITEM 1 -LIBRARY PROGRAMS
Supervisor Hedges announced she has been promoted to Division Manager
because of a reorganization at the Library and she will no longer be attending
the Commission meetings. Her replacement will be Celia La Riviere who
will begin attending meetings in March. Supervisor Hedges said her staff did
extensive research on the topic of "Public Art" at the Commission's request,
but were unable to find any information. Chairperson Redington thanked
Supervisor Hedges for her participation in the Civic Cultural Commission
meetings. The listing of the Library activities for the month of February are
attached.
ITEM 2-SEQUOIA PLAYERS
Ray Dougherty of the Sequoia Players said they would like to reduce their
public performances of "Kiss Me Kate" from 3 to 2 due to the fact that a
limited amount of people will attend. The performances are scheduled for
the evenings of April 26 and 27. They had originally planned on presenting
"Bridgadoon" but found it too hard to cast. They will also save $395.00 in
royalty fees with one less performance. There will be a Thursday evening
dress rehearsal on April 25 and the students from John Gill and McKinley
will be invited to attend.
M/S Filippi/Distefano: To accept the requested change from 3 to 2
performances of the Sequoia Players.
Motion passed.
