He felt that the
ultimate responsibility now needs to fall to the owner of Carrington Hall, the
Sequoia Union High School Ditrict. He said the Committee is
recommending that the District fund $3.5 million towards the renovation of
Carrington Hall and assume total control of the project. The Committee also
recommends that the next phase of the project focus on a fundraising effort to
raise $2.0 million through community, corporate, and business donations. It
was also recommended that the City of Redwood City/Redevelopment
Agency pay for the structural renovation costs of Carrington Hall at a cost of
$600,000.
Mr. Penna said the Committee is proud of the work they have done and feel
they have made solid reommendations to be considered by the appropriate
agencies.
ITEM 6-PUBLIC COMMENTS
Mr. Penna mentioned that if anyone in the audience would like a copy of this
evening's report, please leave your name and address with him so he can
forward a copy to you. Councilman Ira Ruskin commented it was a terrific
report and requested that some thought be given to marketing the facility
which will be an important aspect in the long run. Councilwoman Georgi
LaBerge said she was pleased with the presentation and was aLso pleased to
see the proposed enhancements which will increase the usage of the facility.
A student representative from the Senior Class of Sequoia High School stated
the Senior Class is looking at making a cash donation to Carrington Hall as its
Senior Gift. She asked if there would be a plaque in the lobby of Carrington
Hall recognizing donors to the project. Frank Bravo, President of the Sequoia
Alumni Association, stated the Alumni Association considered placing a
plaque in the main entrance of Carrington Hall but due to the sheer number
of people who have donated, this may not be possible. They are considering
doing something to recognize the donors but this has not been finalized.
Commissioner Distefano stated she was pleased with the presentation.
