Civic Cultural Commission page 2 <br /> Minutes of June 6, 1996 <br /> Chairperson Piulle presented a cash award to the representative from Mt. <br /> Carmel School for the largest number of contest entries received. She <br /> thanked everyone for attending and refreshments were served. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> Chairperson Piulle requested the following corrections be made to the May 2 <br /> minutes: The word "special" should be removed from the opening <br /> paragraph of the minutes; and under Item 13, second paragraph, the words <br /> "as per grant guidelines" should be added to the end of the last sentence. <br /> The minutes were approved as corrected. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> The following correspondence was received: <br /> -A thank you note from Commissioner Ball. <br /> -An announcement from the California Confederation of the Arts. <br /> -A flyer about an art therapy program for multiple sclerosis patients. <br /> -Commissioner Piulle announced she met with Pat Nugent last week <br /> regarding PACTAC and the fact that it is not being implemented at McKinley <br /> School as planned. The principal at McKinley has been replaced with two <br /> interim principals and they are hoping to make an effort towards more <br /> cultural arts programming. The Commissioners asked that a letter be sent to <br /> Superintendent Ron Crates with a copy to the School Board expressing the <br /> Commission's concern over the fact that PACTAC is not being implemented <br /> at McKinley School. Copies of the letter should also be sent to the City <br /> Council School Liaison Committee (LaBerge, Howard, Ruskin). The <br /> Commissioners discussed the fact that Pat Nugent has done a great job with <br /> PACTAC and their desire to honor her at an upcoming meeting. <br /> M/S Filippi/Saye: To honor Pat Nugent at the July meeting. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> Chairperson Piulle introduced newly appointed Superintendent Corinne <br /> Centeno who spoke briefly on her desire to support and facilitate <br /> development of the department. <br /> ITEM 2-LIBRARY PROGRAMS <br /> Supervisor LaRiviere thanked Commissioner Redington for participating in <br /> the juried art selection process for the Library. She spoke about the various <br /> activities happening at the Library for the month of June. A copy of the June <br /> activities are attached to the minutes. <br />
