Civic Cultural Commission Page S Minutes of May 1, 1997 The Arguello statue will be reviewed by Ruth Waters and Commissioner Piulle for the appropriate protection and Commissioner Piulle will report the findings. Staff spoke about the relocation of the statue and naming of the plaza. M/S Saye/Redington: To await the design of the Joint Powers Board of the pedestrian crosswalk before relocating the statue in the plaza. Commissioner Distefano spoke about her lack of support for the naming of the plaza. Motion passed unanimously. -Summer Concerts Two banners have been purchased and concert flyers have been distributed. The Commissioners signed up to host the individual concert dates. The Port concerts will include: Saturday, September 20 - Bujan Orchestra and Sunday, September 21 - Foster City Big Band. M/S Filippi/Distefano: To approve Plan B for support of the Port concerts contingent on Council approval of 97-98 budget. Motion passed unanimously. The Commissioners agreed they would prefer the Sequoia High School fence as a site for one of the banners. -Special Art Events Commissioner Britschgi reported an application from the Redwood City Art Center will be forthcoming for the Make-A-Circus event on August 12. The Art Center is looking to provide a childrens' art activity at Make-A-Circus. The Commissioners decided to combine the Youth & Art and Special Events Sub-Committees into one sub-committee with Commissioner Britschgi as the chairperson. ITEM 4-FOCUS 96-97 The Commissioners spoke about the need for a "Preview and Review" meeting this year. Chairperson Ball agreed to ask the Interservice Club if speakers from the Cultural Commission could address any of their clubs. The Commissioners suggested that all art entities have a brainstorming session on individual plans in the Fall of 1997. ITEM 5- EVALUATION OF CULTURAL EVENTS HELD DURING THE PAST 30 DAYS
