Civic Cultural Commission Page 4 <br /> Minutes of June S, 1997 <br /> M/S Saye/Redington: To grant Redwood City Art Center $500.00 to support <br /> art activities at Make*A*Circus. <br /> Motion passed. (Commissioner Distefano abstained due to being on the Art <br /> Center Board of Directors.) <br /> -Sequoia High School Alumni Association <br /> Nancy Oliver spoke regarding the Sequoia Alumni Association's request of <br /> support for the 3rd Annual Holiday Theater Program to benefit Carrington <br /> Hall. Last year they participated in 'Tis the Season and earned $2,000.00. <br /> M/S Filippi/Distefano: To grant a total of $1,429.00 to the Sequoia Alumni <br /> Association using $894.00 from the FY97-98 budget pending final <br /> budget approval from the City Council, and $535.00 from FY96-97. <br /> Motion passed. (Yes-3, Ball, Distefano, Filippi: No-2, Redington, Saye) <br /> -Optimist Club-Climate Best Fest <br /> Optimist Club President Ted Gawronski requested funds to support <br /> entertainment at the 1997 Climate Best Festival. These funds would provide <br /> the majority of the entertainment budget. A full accounting will be provided <br /> to the Commission if the grant is approved. Mr. Gawronski responded to <br /> questions from Commissioners Saye, Filippi and Distefano regarding how <br /> fundraising monies are used, how money is made, and how the club funds its <br /> administrative costs. He pointed out they will now consider individual <br /> needs on a case by case basis. The minimum grant amount they have <br /> requested is $2,400.00 and the timing of the request is due to the need to <br /> contract with entertainers for the event. <br /> M/S Distefano/ : To approve the amount requested by the Optimist Club <br /> pending City Council budget approval. <br /> Motion died due to lack of a second. <br /> M/S Filippi/Distefano: To approve $2,400.00 for the Optimist Club grant <br /> request pending City Council approval of the budget. <br /> Motion passed. (Yes-3, Ball, Distefano, Filippi; No-1, Saye; Abstention-1, <br /> Commissioner Redington abstained due to his membership with the <br /> Redwood City Optimist Club.) <br /> TTEM 3-SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> -Publicity <br /> Commissioner Distefano noted the weekly Concerts in the Park <br /> advertisement she has included in the Redwood City Almanac. <br />
