� <br /> Civic Cu/tural Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of January 8, 1998 <br /> Barbara Pierce shared a video of an actual classroom program which is <br /> happening in 75 classrooms throughout the District. All programs are <br /> partnerships with artists, schools and students. She thanked the <br /> Commission for the grant of $10,000 in support of the project. <br /> ITEM 3 — ACTION ON GRANT REQUEST FROM CENTER FOR THE <br /> AMERICAN MUSICAL FOR SUPPORT OF A FUNDRAISING EVENT WITH USE <br /> OF JOHN RAITT FUND - 51,500 <br /> M/s Redington/Distefano: To grant Center for the American Musical <br /> $1,500 from the John Raitt Fund with half of the net <br /> proceeds to go back into the John Raitt Fund; <br /> performance to be held February 8 at Canada <br /> College at 2:30pm. <br /> Motion unanimously approved. <br /> ITEM 4 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> -Publicity <br /> Commissioner Distefano indicated no news to report; will cover Joe Marchi <br /> and Center for American Musical event. <br /> -Tis the Season <br /> Chairperson Ball reported she was pleased with the Childrens' Holiday <br /> Parade; the Alumni performance was excellent but attendance was poor. <br /> The ballet performance with the Ragazzi Boys Choir was well attended but <br /> the sound was poor; suggested that Sequoia High School needs to have <br /> personnel there to operate sound and light system. The critique meeting of <br /> the Tis the Season Committee will be held on January 14, 1998. <br /> Commissioner Distefano felt the Tis the Season production was excellent but <br /> even with all the publicity, it did not seem to attract a lot of <br /> people. Comments from the Commissioners included: a fundraiser was <br /> suggested for the pictures with Santa; the school programs were not <br /> "Christmasy"; fireworks were a great success; Mayor Howard was <br /> enthusiastic about the fireworks program. <br /> -Public Art <br /> Nothing to report. <br /> -Summer Concerts <br /> A memo was distributed to the Commissioners from Manager Julie Hannon <br /> with various options for the 1998 Summer Concert Series. The Commission <br /> recommended going with Option C at a cost of 55,050 and a change in the <br /> concert time to 6:30-8:30pm. <br /> -Youth and Special Events <br /> Commissioner Britschgi announced the Art Center is planning a °Symphony <br /> and the Arts" at Carrington Hall. It may be done in conjunction with the <br /> California Artists Festival as a fundraising event for the Art Center. She <br /> noted that the San Mateo Historical Museum has raised the $3 million <br /> needed for its project. Volunteer docents are needed; training will be <br /> provided on January 13, February 1 and 7. <br />
