Civlc Culture/Commiss/on pege 2 <br /> Minutes of Octobei 14, 1999 <br /> ITEM 1 — DISCUSSION OF PLACEMENT OF JADE SHIP (GIFT FROM SISTER <br /> CITY) LOCATED IN CITY HALL <br /> Barbara Britschgi reported on her t 0/4/99 meeting at City Hall with Andy <br /> Fisch, Oliver Redington. The Public Art Cammittee is recommending that the <br /> Jade ship be moved to the bare wall between the reception desk and the <br /> elevator in the City Hall lobby. In addition they recommend that a sign be <br /> placed near the ship letting people know of the exist�ence of the upstairs <br /> gallery. Paula Uccelli indicated she was pfeased with the proposed location <br /> and that it represented a place of visible honor for our Sister City <br /> relationship. <br /> MS - Dale/Schenone go through the appropriate channels to recommend that <br /> the Jade Ship be moved to the watl between the elevator and the reception <br /> desk from the second floor art gallery space. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> The Commission also agreed to use up to $500 of funding to assist with the <br /> move. <br /> ITEM 2 — JOHN GILL SCHOOL REQUEST FOR SMALL GRANT FOR PHYSICS <br /> AND THEATER PRODUCTION <br /> Lua Hadar spoke to the grant request on behalf of John Gill School. Along <br /> with funds from Philanthropic Venture and the District the monies would <br /> support a program for 3 third grade classes at John Gill. Each class would <br /> write a song around the pushes and pulls theme and perform for the whole <br /> school at Canada College. There would be a minimum of three <br /> performances. <br /> MS Saye/Pierce to grant 5999 to support John Gill's3rd grade production <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Ms. Hadar invited the Commissioners to attend the John Gill Holiday <br /> performance at Red Morton on December 15, 1999 at 6:30 and 8:00 p.m. <br /> Commissioners asked staff to provide an updated copy of the Commission <br /> budget for their review in the next packet. <br /> ITEM 3 - VINTAGE MUSIC THEATER PERFORMANCE AT FOX THEATER <br /> Corinne Centeno reported on a phone message left by Mr. McKenna indicting <br /> that the cost of producing a show at the McKinley Auditorium was <br /> prohibitive given the need to rent a sound system. Mr. McKenna indicated <br /> that the school sound system is not available for public use. The <br /> Commission discussed the fact that they expected to see three performances <br /> in Redwood City. <br /> MS Saye/Britischgi to divide the S2500 grant in three portions and pay for <br /> the number of performances in Redwood City. Motion failed (1-6) <br /> Aye: Schenone <br /> No: Redington, Britschgi, Dale, DelCarlo, Pierce Saye, <br /> MS Dale/Britschgi to support three concert anywhere in Redwood City. If <br /> three concerts in Redwood City are not possible then the grant will be <br /> reduced by S 500.00 to S 2,000.00 <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> � <br /> � <br />
