Civic Cultural Commission Page 4 Minutes of Thursday, April 6, 2000 ITEM 4 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS -Budget, Public Art Fund Establishment Superintendent Centeno confirmed that City Council action would be required to establish a public art fund. She will be writing the staff report and need two Commissioners to review the report before it is presented in mid-May. It was requested that all Commissioners read the City of Menlo Park staff report on their public art program and that Commission input would be given at the May meeting on what we should have in our proposal. -Children and Schools The finalists for each grade level have been hung in the CAB hallway and Commissioners were instructed that voting needs to be completed by Friday, April 14 in order to get letters out to the schools and students. Superintendent Centeno stated that 371 entries were received for the contest. There was discussion that many of the entries were not completed on the regulation forms and whether or not to accept them as presented. M/S DelCarlo/Saye: To accept the art work as presented. Motion passed. (Yes-4, No-1 Schenone) -Cultural Commission Sponsored Events Commissioner Del Carlo announced the concerts will begin on June 21 and we are still looking for a salsa band for the program. -Public Art, Status of Sister City Ship Commissioner Britschgi stated the sub-committee met this week and she contacted Mayor Ruskin about the jade ship. The Commissioners discussed meeting with the Architectural Advisory Committee to resolve this matter. Commissioner Britschgi said the sub-committee reviewed the public art brochure and updated the information. The Commissioners discussed updating the photographs and information in the brochure and the cost of re-printing the document. The Commisioners suggested asking John Anagnostou to speak at the July meeting regarding the renovation of the Fox Theater.
