Civic Cu/tural Commission pa9e 2 Y <br /> Minutes of February 1, 2001 ` <br /> -Fareweli reception at Redwood City Art Center for Horst Woif on February 2 <br /> from 4:00-7:OOpm <br /> Director Centeno reviewed letters she sent to the Redwood City Women's <br /> Club and San Mateo Gymnastics regarding their recent grant applications. <br /> Both requests did not meet the Commission's Funding Guidelines. <br /> Director Centeno also reviewed a letter which was sent to Edward Rosenstiel <br /> of the Sequoia Art Group regarding their request to use the City of Redwood <br /> City as their fiscal agent for receiving donations to purchase new art display <br /> boards. Director Centeno explained this request was approved by <br /> Chairperson Britschgi and the City Manager's Office. <br /> ITEM 1 — STANFORD DIGITAL ART PRESENTATION <br /> Stanford Art Professor Greg Niemeyer explained the students in the Digital <br /> Art Department at Stanford University are interested in projecting an <br /> animated light show on the outside wall of the Fox Theatre on Wednesday, <br /> March 21, which is the first day of Spring. Professor Niemeyer showed a <br /> graphic presentation of the animation on his lap top computer to the <br /> Commissioners and audience. He stated the event called "Spring <br /> Celebration" would last one hour and would be featured at 9:OOpm and <br /> 10:OOpm. Refreshments would be served and possibly a radio station would <br /> participate in the program. He indicated that UPS has funded the project and <br /> there are also funds remaining from the Commission's previous grant to the <br /> Digital Art Department. Professor Niemeyer asked the Commissioners about <br /> what type of permits and other items would be needed in order to proceed <br /> with this project. Director Centeno suggested he contact Fox Theater owner <br /> )ohn Anagnostou to obtain permission to use the Fox Theater. She also <br /> suggested he contact the Police Department to obtain permits to use the <br /> parking lot on Winslow. Professor Niemeyer agreed to return to the March <br /> meeting with further information. <br /> ITEM 2 — LARGE GRANT REQUESTS <br /> Large Grant requests were heard from the following groups: <br /> Lua Hadar, John Gill School, $5,000 requested <br /> Katherine Delfts, Sequoia Art Group, $500 requested <br /> Kathy Heffernan, San Mateo County Historical Association, $7,310 requested <br /> Elena Mori, Kennedy Drama, $2,500 requested <br /> Sara Salsbury, Peninsula Youth Orchestra, $1,500 requested <br /> Georgi La Berge, Redwood City 2020, $3800 requested <br /> Bruce Codding, Redwood City Education Foundation, $14,000 requested <br /> Shirley Masters, Redwood City Heritage Association, $2,950 requested <br /> Bill McKenna, Vintage Music Theatre, $4,500 requested <br /> )oan )ordan, Redwood City Art Center, $14,000 requested <br />
