Civic Cu/tural Commission Page 4 � <br /> Minutes of February 1, 2001 ° <br /> M/S Dale/Kushin: To ask the Redwood City Art Center to come back <br /> to us in March with a proposal that fits within our guidelines and we <br /> will hold $2,000 in reserves for possible funding. <br /> The Commissioners discussed temporary rent relief for Art Center; <br /> suggestion of a fundraising proposal; importance of Art Center and its impact <br /> on community; subsidizing an art center in our community; whether this <br /> grant request met the Commission's funding guidelines. <br /> Motion withdrawn. <br /> Commissioner Dale suggested that Chairperson Britschgi speak to the <br /> Redwood City Art Center about how the Commission could assist them. <br /> ITEM 3 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> -Budget <br /> No report at this time. <br /> -Children and Schools, Art Contest <br /> Commissioner Dale stated he did not receive a response from the Marine <br /> Institute regarding a donation as a prize for our Art Contest. Commissioner <br /> Del Carlo will follow up with her contact from the Institute. The theme of the <br /> Art Contest is "Under the Sea" and packets have been delivered to the <br /> Redwood City School District. The Commissioners took packets to be <br /> delivered to the private schools in Redwood City. <br /> -CCC Sponsored Events, Summer Concert Series <br /> Commissioner Del Carlo will set up a meeting for the Summer Concerts sub- <br /> committee. <br /> -Strategic Plan Update <br /> This committee will resume meeting in January. <br /> -Public Art <br /> Commissioner pouglas reported that he, Chairperson Britschgi, Planning <br /> Commissioner Tamara Piulle, Director Centeno and Manager Linda GrifFith <br /> met to discuss the draft public art proposal. The revised proposal will be <br /> brought back to the Commission for approval at a future meeting. <br /> Chairperson Britschgi noted that the jade ship has been relocated to the first <br /> floor at City Hall. She would like the Commission to discuss how the previous <br /> location of the jade ship can be utilized. Director Centeno stated she <br /> received a letter from the Sequoia Art Group stating their desire to manage <br /> the art displays at City Hall if and when the Art Center no longer wishes to <br /> take over this task. <br />
