Civic Cultural Commission Page 2 ` Minutes of August 9, 2001 ° M/5 Douglas/Kushin: To grant $1,000.00 to the Red�wood Shores Homeowners Association to be used for entertainment. Motion passed unanimously. ITEM 2 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS -Budget, Status of request for additional funds from Council Commissioner pouglas spoke about his presentation to Council regarding the Commission's request for additional funds. He stated that the Council asked about the Commission's direction, mission statement, and its priorities. Chairperson Britschgi, Commissioner pouglas and Director Centeno will meet to develop a planning document. Director Centeno spoke about timing of the request and the preparation for the City's two year budget cycle. Commissioner Dale suggested that the Commission hold a special meeting to develop a strategic plan and to have Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center facilitate the meeting. The Commissioners discussed various ways to develop a plan and information that would be needed as part of the process. -Budget, Deliberation & Decision on FY 01-02 Large Grant Requests Director Centeno distributed a memo and spoke about FY2001-2002 Budget Committee recommendations for the large grant requests. She reminded the Commissioners that its total budget for this fiscal year was $77,150 and the Commission received $152,550.00 in large grant requests. The Commission took a short recess at 8:03pm and the meeting was called back to order at 8:14pm. Marni Tuel, Executive Director of Kollage Community School for the Arts, explained she was unable to attend the June 7 grant presentation meeting and wanted to explain Kollage's grant request. She explained their $12,000.00 grant request was to fund two programs; $9,500.00 was for operational support for Redwood City programs held at Red Morton and Sandpiper Centers, and $2,500.00 was for an ethnic dance program to be held at a Redwood City school. She explained that Kollage's grant request was not related to the Redwood City Education Foundation's grant request for the '�Music for Learning" program. The Commissioners congratulated Bruce Codding and Redwood City Educational Foundation for their recent grant from Starbucks. The Commissioners discussed the large grant requests and how to allocate their available funds. M/S Soultanian/Dale: To grant $10,000.00 to City Center Plaza 7azz Series.
