Civic Cu/tural Commission Page 4 Minutes of August 9, 2001 µ -Children and Schoois No report. -Cultural Commission Sponsored Events Director Centeno announced that the June 27 concert which was cancelled due to rain has been re-scheduled for August 15. New concert flyers have been produced with the revised dates. She stated that surveys have been sent out to approximately 70 Stafford Park neighbors to obtain their input on how the concerts affect their neighborhoods. Results will be shared with the Commission. Commissioner Ball reported that the next 'Tis the Season meeting will be held on August 21, and that a letter was sent to Washington Mutual to request support for the 2001 holiday event. -Strategic Plan Update Downtown Area Planning Committee - No report San Mateo County Arts Council - Commissioner pouglas reported that the Arts Council hired a professional consultant to organize cultural activities in the County. -Public Art Chairperson Britschgi stated she received positive comments on the water tank mural proposal. ITEM 3 - EVALUATION OF CULTURAL EVENTS HELD OVER THE PAST 30 DAYS The Commissioners attended the following cultural events: Soultanian - Ansel Adams exhibit at SFMOMA, summer concerts, jazz at the Plaza Dale - marionette performance in Prague, Jewish folk festival, chamber music, summer concerts, opera performance Ball - all summer concerts, "Madame Buttertly", "Romeo & )uliet" Kushin - summer concerts, jazz at the Plaza, in England attended performance of"Oliver" performance, museums, three plays, and "Punting on the Cam" Britschgi - rafting on the Truckee River, jazz at the Plaza, Redwood City Day at the Giants Douglas - visit from nephew and family from New ]ersey, Redwood Symphony performance, jazz at the Plaza, summer concerts
