. I ,.
In answer to Directors' questions, Acting Planning Director Jany described
how staff is working with CalTrans on the clock tower that will be built
at the eastern terminus of James Avenue near the entrance of the CalTrain
parking garage. The Board directed staff to make drawings available to the
- Board as well as the Planning Commission.
MEMO 12/7/93
Mayor Buchan invited anyone who wished to speak to please do so.
Joe Steinfeld, Main Street merchant, asked questions of the Board relating
to the sale of Sequoia Station. This matter was referred to staff.
MEMO 12/7/93
Mr. Steinfeld addressed the Board regarding the Fox Theatre and asked for a
negotiating committee chaired by Councilman Greenalch and stringent
conditions on further uses.
Don Saye, Broadway merchant, spoke in favor of the Fox Theatre as a viable
civic and artistic center. Mr. Saye advised that the downtown area should
be for business and not for more affordable housing like the Sequoia Hotel.
Director Greenalch stated that the Redevelopment Agency is committed to
providing affordable housing for families, seniors and the disabled; for
hard working people like teachers who make $29,000 a year who would qualify
under the affordable housing formula. Director Greenalch advised that
government subsidized housing has not worked and the Agency's affordable
housing plans do not include more single occupancy residences such as
the Sequoia and Clift Hotels.
- In response to Directors' questions regarding the Fox Theatre budget,
Director La Berge advised that the Fox Theatre Task Force is in the process
of developing an overall report that will be presented to Council and the
Agency in January.
1) MIS: lA BERGEIGREENALCH TO APPROVE THE 8TH AMENDMENT TO THE BOND ISSUE
BUDGET, ITEMS 1 THROUGH 16 AS lISTED IN THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S REPORT
OF 12/6/93 AS SUBMITTED
CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE.
MINUTE ORDER NO.
