<br />n-___.- --------.- ----- -'-- H _..- <br />In response to Councilman Claire's questions regarding his status as an instructor at College <br />without ties to its new Economic Development program, Agency Attorney Schricker advised that <br />there was no apparent conflict of interest at this time. <br />A- Agency Directors considered the process, participants and goals of the draft Economic <br />Development Strategy. <br />REPORT: Redevelopment Agency Director, February 14, 1994 <br />Director Church presented the staff report and described the purpose of setting up this <br />committee: Business retention, expansion and attraction; create new jobs; and increase tax <br />revenues. <br />Chairwoman Buchan called on members of the audience who wished to speak at this time. <br />Joe Steinfeld, 850 Main Street, Redwood City, asked that retailers be part of the proposed <br />committee and asked that the Agency insist the Chamber of Commerce get involved with the <br />downtown. <br />Director Church advised that this committee will focus on the whole City and get involved with <br />retail, commercial, offices, and industrial bases. It will focus on job creation as well as tax <br />revenues, and be aimed at the whole economy of Redwood City- <br />Agency Directors discussed the need for an overall strategy. Director Gasparini advised that <br />the neighborhood associations would be a good avenue for retailers; and, an overall strategy <br />would have helped in the Telogy relocation. <br />In response to Directors' questions, Agency Director Chnrch advised that the Agency would be <br />the lead agency on this committee and the Chamber would provide technical assistance. Director <br />Church estimated the cost ofthe program between $25,000 and $50,000, and advised it would be <br />an on-going program with a whole range of options. Director Church advised it would be the <br />Agency Directors' decision how much money to spend on it and how much staff time to allot to <br />the program. <br />MIS: CLAIREISTEINFELD TO APPROVE THE DRAFT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br />STRATEGY AS OUTLINED WITH THE FOLLOWING MODIFICATION: INCLUDE <br />REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE RETAIL BUSINESS AREA IN THE CHAMBER <br />ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE <br />CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO.
