Economic Development Strategies and Request for Qualifications for a Consultant <br /> (1402-04) <br /> REPORT: Redevelopment Agency Executive Director, August 29, 1994 <br /> Housing Specialist Svoboda presented the staff report and described the process as a <br /> joint product of the Agency and the Chamber of Commerce with review and approval <br /> by the Neighborhood Association co-chairs <br /> In answer to Director Steinfeld's questions, Pat Webb, Chamber President, described <br /> the process and advised that large retailers had been invited to participate, but had <br /> chosen not to, and agreed to try to recruit more retailers into the process. <br /> MEMO 8/30/94 <br /> Joe Steinfeld, candidate for election, stated that a consultant's efforts would be a <br /> waste of money if retailers did not participate and support the strategies. <br /> Councilwoman La Berge, candidate for re-election, spoke in favor of strategies that <br /> identify businesses that need help, and identify economic gaps so the City could woo <br /> businesses to ready markets. Councilwoman La Berge stated these strategies would pay <br /> huge dividends. <br /> Jim Hartnett, candidate for election, President-Elect of the Chamber of Commerce, <br /> and past Chainnan of San Mateo County Economic Development Association advised <br /> the Council that Redwood City was on the right course.
