7.2.A. - Page 1 <br /> RE PO RT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Cit Mana er <br /> October 7, 2013 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Final Acceptance —2012 Mezes Park Renovation Project <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> By motion, accept the 2012 Mezes Park Renovation Project and authorize the release <br /> of bonds and retention according to city procedures. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> On January 14, 2013, Council awarded the construction contract for the 2012 Mezes <br /> Park Renovation Project to Suarez and Munoz Construction, Inc. in the amount of <br /> $516,500 and authorized the City Manager to increase the contract amount, if <br /> necessary, up to 10% of the amount awarded, not to exceed $568,150. <br /> The improvements to the park included the replacement of the existing restroom with a <br /> pre-fabricated ADA compliant restroom, new concrete pathways within and around the <br /> perimeter of the park, new lighting, new accessible picnic areas, the refurbishment of <br /> the existing toddler swings and replacement of the tot lot play structure, and the <br /> installation of a new ADA swing in the school age play area. The improvements also <br /> included upgrading the electrical panel which serves the entire park, upgrading the <br /> existing irrigation system, adding shade to the school age play area with new trees, and <br /> improving drainage in the existing lawn areas. <br /> ANALYSIS <br /> The Mezes Park Renovation Project was successfully completed in accordance with the <br /> plans and specifications for a total contract cost of $557,891.73. Change orders were <br /> issued for the sum total of $41,391.73, which is 7.42% more than the awarded contract <br /> amount. The majority of the change order amount was issued for unforeseen removal <br /> of asbestos pipe, the installation of new storm drain pipes and catch basins, <br /> adjustments to the walkways and related electrical, and adjustments to the irrigation <br /> system and sod installation. <br /> Mezes Park was substantially completed on July 19, 2013 and re-opened to the public <br /> on Saturday, July 20, 2013. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> Council may choose not to accept the project, or authorize the release of bonds and <br /> retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract and prior Council action. <br />
