7.2.C. - Page 1
RE PO RT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the Cit Mana er
October 7, 2013
SUBJECT
Final Acceptance -Water Main Seismic Improvement Project
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, accept the Water Main Seismic Improvement Project and authorize the
release of bonds and retention according to City procedures.
BACKGROUND
On January 14, 2013 the City Council awarded the construction contract for the Water
Main Seismic Improvement Program to Caggiano General Engineering Inc. of EI
Dorado Hills in the amount of $209,000.02 to upgrade sections of steel pipeline
supported by Bridge Parkway Bridge and Shorebird Island Bridge in Redwood Shores.
ANALYSIS
The project final completion date was August 13, 2013. A walkthrough was conducted
on August 14, 2013 with Public Works Services (PWS) staff and the project was
officially delivered to PWS for operation and maintenance.
The project has been completed in accordance with the plans and specifications and
within the timeframe allowed by contract for a total cost of $227,350.02 which is 8.8%
more than the original bid amount. One change order was issued for the amount of
$18,350.00 resulting from the necessity to replace the existing bolts and installing
neoprene pads at all pipe supports, and applying protective coating to approximately
120 linear feet of pipe that was not included in the original contract.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to accept the project or authorize the release of bonds and
retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council action, and
public contracting code.
FISCAL IMPACT
Sufficient funding for the work of this contract was previously appropriated as Water
Fund Capital Projects— Water Seismic Update.
